The program for a 3 day cycling trail may look like this:

The First Day - a section from De Uijlenes over the mountain

Cycling / Mountain Bike Trails in GansbaaiYou will be crossing various private farms and conservancies. Here you have a few trails to choose from but these are tough rides and you have to be fit as well as technically able to ride steep rocky descents and tight switchbacks.

It has stunning views, very tough climbs with exhilarating, fast technical descents.  The first climb is short and you have some lovely views over the dam before you start the first proper climb.  The first bit is jeep track, then a brief down before you start the single track.  The switchbacks are tight but doable.

The next climb is slightly longer with a single track section, but the next downhill is worth it!  After the jeep track section you join the single track, and here we have added 4 small jumps and a rock berm for those with a sense of adventure!

Seal spotted on the Cycling / Mountain Bike Trails in GansbaaiThere are bits of respite, but generally you just keep at it all the way to the beacon!   The beacon is a few meters from the track, but worth the stop as you have views to Stanford, as well as over to Pearly Beach.  The downhill here is on a jeep track, very fast with off camber sections as well as a gate that is always closed!  The way back is along an undulating gravel road to reflect on the ride!

The Second Day - Pearly Beach

Pearly Beach Cycling Mountain Bike Trails Cycle to Pearly beach on the tar and return on the beach via the reserve. It is not a very technical ride, lots of sand and/or pebbles, but beautiful beaches.Follow the rocky coast and remote white sandy beaches along the ‘Gruis’ where there is ample opportunity to swim in rock pools or surf the waves. You are bound to see dolphins playing in the surf, seals scattering over rocky shores as well as the endangered Black Oyster Catcher (Swart Tobie) and multitudes of other sea birds. We visit the little Strandveld museum where you can listen to the tragic stories of the Birkenhead and other shipwrecks of days gone by as told by the writer SD Fourie and her husband Oom Jan "Pyp" Fourie. Have supper at yet another local restaurant before returning to your guesthouse for a well deserved rest.

The Third Day – Lighthouse and Cave Trail

Lighthouse and Cave Trail

Follow  the coastline in Kleinbaai, where you will cross the grassy area next to the tidal pool to get to the 4X4 track. Cycle to the Lighthouse, come back down again and turn left to go to Gansbaai.  In town, turn down to the harbour and cycle all along the seaside to De Kelders where you can visit any of our famous 5 caves before continuing to Die Plaat where you can end off your trails looking at the wonderful vista in front of you. Runs from Gansbaai, along the rocky coast, with its caves and excellent whale watching, to Die Plaat (13 km). Do all three days or choose one or two. Ride from the Gansbaai harbour all along the unsurpassed scenic beauty until you arrive at the De Kelders cliffs with its world class whale viewing. Visit easily accessible  caves. Entering some of the caves is optional ... for the more adventurous. The views over the coast at Die Plaat  are unparalleled. Visit intimate coves for swimming along the trail and experience massive breakers thundering against the sea cliff.
